This song was inspired by a young girls poem, to her credit, Kristin Lynn Smith.
In our culture, victims of abuse are often encouraged to be quiet, and to not draw to much attention. Very sad. I wrote this song to give voice to those that have been abused...silence has never, and will never, accomplish anything.

Fly Away
I remember when
I danced with flowers
But that was all a dream
I was just a child
When you struck me down
Called me names that I didn’t know the meanings of
I am older now
Feel like such a wreck
How can I forgive?
I remember when
I tried to sleep at night, home from work you walked inside
Words echo in my mind, but I will find
A way to escape you, erase you, and find myself and fly away
I will fly away
I want to go back
Remove you and
Dig castles in the sand
But now I must face
You and the scars, embrace
Forgiveness but I’ll never forget no I’ll never forget
I am older now
I must learn to fly
Above the fear and lies
I remember when
You hit and broke and sold me for just an ounce of your peace
Words echo in my mind, but I will find
A way to escape you, erase you, and find myself and fly away
